MT was born in Kastoria, and lives in Thessaloniki. He has two children, a boy and a girl aged 10 and 13 respectively. He graduated from the German School of Thessaloniki and was admitted in the Fridericiana University of Applied Sciences in Karlsruhe, Germany, where he studied Civil Engineering. In the year 1994 he completed his studies also as Civil Aviation - Pilot (IATTA).
After his graduation from the Civil Engineering Department, he was accepted and successfully attended the post-graduate program "Seismic Design of Bridges and other Structures" at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTH) . He subsequently proceeded with his PhD entitled "A proposal for the Design of monolithic multi span
Bridges. Analytical investigation and documentation (2012)", approved with the grade of excellence and distinction.
Dr Michail Tsitotas also holds a degree in Civil Aviation (CAA-IATA).
He is fluent in German and English.

Professional / Scientific Activity
Since 1988 he worked for international Research and Consulting Companies in Germany and other European countries as Designer of public buildings, bridges and other infrastructures and later as Project Manager. Since 1992 he has been Managing partner in Public Works Consortia for public and private projects, mainly focused in project Planning and Construction of Structures and other urban infrastructure (Kastoria Airport Greece, Kastoria Hospital Greece, Workers' Housing, private and public buildings, road construction works of national network, Bridges a.o.urban infrastructure in Northern Greece).
From 1988 onward he also worked intermittently as Design and Development Engineering Consultant for International Engineering Consulting Houses.
He also worked as structural designer on behalf of the Hellenic Ministry of Culture for the Organization for Project Planning and Technical Support (OTYE) “Thessaloniki, Cultural Capital of Europe 1996”, for the strengthening, restoration and reconstruction of the six main theatres and other public buildings of Thessaloniki in Greece.
In 1999 he also worked at the Ministry of Environment and Public Works as Advisor and Expert in technical committees, member for the Earthquake Planning and Protection Organization (OASP). Positions held: (a) Scientific Advisor and member of the Ad Hoc Scientific Committee, investigating the causes of major structural damages due to earthquakes (b) Member of the Special Committee of the Ministry of Environment Planning & Public Works, for the revised control of buildings ready to fall, in the Athens area, in the aftermath of the 7th Sept. 99 earthquake, in collaboration with Prof. Tassios, Prof. Penelis and Prof. Fardis
Over a long period, he has also been active as Contractor of public and private sector constructions. Along with his aforementioned professional activity in Design and Project management, he has been engaged in the Aristotle University Laboratory for Reinforced- Concrete and Masonry Structures (LRfC), in Thessaloniki, for the research topics and projects mentioned below, is collaborating with the LRfC on a research basis, and gives lectures on Civil Engineering and Project Management in Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and University of Thessalia as Adjunct Professor.
Next, he focused professionally on one of the leading, state owned, companies for Highway- and other infrastructures in Greece, Egnatia Odos SA, as Design Checker and Construction Management Consultant. In 2006 he was promoted in Structures Head Coordinator, 2008 in Assistant Design Manager, 2013 in Project Managing Director of the Thessaloniki Infrastructures Masterplan -2020, and finally he became General Director of Egnatia Odos SA. and member of the Executive and Managing Committees for the last 5 years.
Dr Michail Tsitotas has been Treasurer, Secretary General and Vice President of EPES for 14 years and remains a member of the Board of Directors of the "Hellenic Scientific Society for Reinforced Concrete Research" (EPES) and f.member of the board of the "International Association for Bridge and Structural Engineering (IABSE-Hellenic Group).
He has been, since 2012, National Expert and Head coordinator of the Greek Delegation of the Joint Working Group under the interstate agreement between Greece and Turkey for the design and construction of the Kipoi-Ipsala border crossing suspension bridge in Evros river, while he is now a member of the Standing Committee on Natural and Technological Disasters and member of the Bridge Committee of the Technical Chamber of Greece. He has been also member of organizing committees of conferences and committees for awarding technical works and author of technical and social-economic essays. Conceptual planner and rapporteur of the constructed New West Ring road of Thessaloniki as well as the Elevated Ring road Project (FLYOVER) of Thessaloniki, one of the largest highway bridge projects in Greece being built with private and public sector partnership (PPP).
